Our date with Zachary

The night was going just as planned. We had an uneventful departure and the boys were left to enjoy their Gigi and we were off to dinner and our hotel room. After a delicious meal, Sloan and I were soaking up the moment and enjoying our drinks. I just so happened to be leaning on my purse when I felt a vibration...my phone. I dug inside to pull it out and saw "Mom" on the caller ID. If you know my mom, you would know, without a shadow of a doubt, that she could handle anything that came her way; she would NOT call unless something was really wrong. As I reached the front door of the restaurant, I could finally hear my mom.

"Zachary needs stitches", was the first thing I heard on the other end of the line.

Apparently my Mexican Martini was doing it's job, because I didn't freak out at all! I did, however, rush back in to the restaurant, grab our bill and hand it and a credit card to the first server I saw. Within minutes we were out of there and on our way back to my mom's to get Zachary.

Zachary and Grant had been running and playing when they collided...not unusual by any means. Zachary just happened to be next to the corner of a baseboard where is precious little face landed.
Off to the emergency room we went.
Thankfully my car stays loaded with "junk" for the boys. We enjoyed the songs of our "dogeeeee" and read our book while the numbing gel took effect and we waited for the doctor. (That's not really blood running down his face, there is a clear film holding the gel, mixed with blood, in place.)
Eight stitches later, he has a scar to match his daddy. Did he really need another thing to make him look more like his dad?
Zachary was such a trooper! Of course he objected loudly to being strapped to the papoose board. But, he actually fell asleep after the first few stitches! This made Mommy feel much better.

After 2 hours in the emergency room, Zachary was back in Gigi's arms and we headed to our hotel room. I was NOT going to give up my opportunity to sleep in.

  1. Poor little guy, he does sound like a trooper though.

I'm glad you still got you evening away! It's necessary to 'recharge' those mom batteries once in a while, you're blessed to have a wonderful mom!

  2. Aww, poor Zachary!!! I'm so glad he fell asleep; I can only imagine how hard that was to watch.

Hey, are you guys going to the Cameron Road reunion thing this weekend? We're going (staying with Brian and Suzanne Payne). Hope to be able to meet your cuties there!

  3. LOVE your blog design. My daughter fell and cut her chin open when she was about this age, too. Same story. Cried and screamed until the doctor started putting the stitches in. Then she zonked out. :)

  8. Kelly at http://theneuroticmom.blogspot.com/ told me about this because my 3-yr-old daughter developed a matching wound on her chin last weekend! 3 hours in the ER!

What a sweet little man you have there! I hope he heals quickly!
