Project Linus

Grant's Quilt

Zachary's Quilt

The boys received quilts yesterday from Project Linus. They were each made by a quilting group here in the Houston area. They each had this little poem attached to them:

My heart as thinking of you,
My hands knew what to do.

This blanket grew out of love
I want to share with you.

I hope it will keep you warm,
and befriend you late at night.

I hope you'll come to love it
and be comforted by its sight.

Let this blanket wrap you in friendship,
and cover you in love.

Because this blanket was thinking of you,
long before it was even done.

Of course this sent me into tears. It is just amazing how thoughtful people are. We have definitely be blessed with a lot of support and love through all of this.

Update:

The boys are both doing great! Zachary tolerated his initial feedings well so they increased the amount of milk he gets at each feeding now. As he continues to do well, they will come down on his IV nutrition as they go up on the amount of milk he gets. He is still on the CPAP as he needs a little extra reminder to breath sometimes. He is being a typical preemie and is having spells of low heart rates and apnea. As he grows and matures he will be able to control all of this on his own. He has surpassed his birth weight and now weighs 3 pounds 5.3 ounces. Grant is also tolerating his feedings well and will hopefully begin his increased feeds today. He is a little behind his brother in feeding because he battled an infection over the weekend. He was a very sick little guy and had to be intubated again to give his body some rest to fight the infection. He is now on antibiotics and has bounced back rather quickly (thankfully), it was very hard to see him so sick. He is now breathing on his own again without any help at all! He has also surpassed his birth weight and now weighs 3 pounds 6.2 ounces. The nurses all get a kick out of how feisty our little guys are. Zachary has gotten very good and getting his CPAP off, he picks his head up and turns to get the prongs out or sometimes he even reaches up and just grabs it and pulls it out. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have been told by nurses that I am going to have my hands full. To be honest I just can't wait...I would much rather have two strong little fighters that give the nurses trouble than to have two sick little babies.

And for all you moms out there...we have poopy diapers every day! Apparently this is now something to celebrate!

I had never heard of Project Linus before, but now I think they are just precious! I'm so happy that they have blessed you and your boys in this way. Keep the updates coming as often as you can!
