Lamp Redo

So I started out with this:

I really wanted something that went better with the new decor in the guest room.  I was inspired by all of the decor with book pages I have seen around blog land...so I got out my Modge Podge and here is the result:
Sorry I didn't take any pictures during the process, I honestly had NO IDEA how it was going to turn out.  Here are the steps:
  1. Rip off all the decor from the shade.  Since the fabric was neutral I left the base fabric on the shade.
  2. Take pages from a book and cover the back with Modge Podge and place them on the shade overlapping until it is completely covered and you like the way it looks.  Be careful not to get any Modge Podge on the top of the pages or else the paint won't adhere.
  3. Cut the edges even with the top and bottom of the shade.
  4. Water down paint (I used acrylic craft paint) and brush all over, following with a paper towel.  I used black (to make gray) first and then followed with brown.
  5. Once the shade dries (which takes a while) hot glue ribbon along the top.  I skipped the ribbon on the bottom...but do whatever you like.
I spray painted the base of the lamp and the finial to get rid of the awful brass color too!
