Calvin

Tonight I introduced the boys to Calvin.  He lives in Indonesia and he will be 9 on April 10th.  He lives with his father and one sibling.  We met Calvin through Compassion International and became his sponsor recently.

Obviously it's hard for the boys to comprehend Calvin's situation, but they know what it means to be hungry and not have many toys.  The hardest part for them to understand is what it means not to have a mommy, but they find comfort knowing that he has a daddy.  After our conversation while the boys were cleaning their room, they came across some toys that they didn't like any more.  Sloan suggested that we gather them for kids that don't have toys.  Grant wanted to send them to Calvin.  Later tonight we talked about the games that Calvin likes to play and how they are similar to the games we like to play.

Right now there are 1,389 children waiting to be sponsored through Compassion all over the world.  There are 57 children in Indonesia just like Calvin.  It was an easy decision to donate $38 a month to Compassion even when our budget is currently the tightest it has ever been.  When Calvin's dad is employed (which isn't constant) he earns the equivalent of $111 a month.

By sponsoring Calvin we are helping to provide Bible teaching, food, health checkups, sports activities, computer courses and tutoring.

I went to Compassion's website many times but left without sponsoring because I just couldn't decide which child to pick.  Then one night I found the "Select a Child for Me" link and we were matched with the child that had been waiting the longest to receive sponsorship.  Head on over and see who your $38 a month could help.
